Sowing the seeds for a successful marketing program

by | Oct 25, 2010 | Company News

I thought I would share with you a conversation I had with a friend. He was curious as to why we get requests from the media to help them with their stories.  The easy answer is that’s the benefit of marketing ourselves to the media as the “go to” resource on a variety of topics. This doesn’t come easily but it is an ongoing value we offer to the media and to our clients.

As publicists, we sow the seeds for future placements daily. We’ve learned how to work with the media to get quality placements for our clients. The secret is to develop solid relationships with reporters and producers.

I love working with the media by providing them with complete information on our client’s products.  When you know what the media needs and how to provide it to them. it’s a win/win situation. Okay, I’m going to end with a little bragging but I just received the nicest email from an editor with a major newspaper. She wrote, ” Dear Peggy – I think you are, what do they say? … an angel who walks among us.”  Now we don’t expect that from all the media but the value of good friendships with the media translates into results for our clients.

She also ended her email with those magical words, “I do want to include this product in the paper right after Halloween, on a Sunday.”  Thank you!
