Five ways to instantly make your digital content more appealing

by | Jun 9, 2017 | Advice & Tips

Each month, an estimated 407 million people read 27.3 million pages built on the popular  website platform, WordPress. To market your product, your digital content must be found, read and acted upon. It’s a big job! Media Relations has been crafting digital content since the internet was created. Doing these five things will instantly make your digital content more appealing.

  1. Keep it short. “When I see large blocks of content, I can’t wait to start reading!” said no one. Ever.
  2. Make it relevant. Think WIIFM (What’s In It For Me). We’re a nation of headline skimmers. Unless readers quickly see a good reason to keep reading, they won’t.
  3. Make it easy to read. Use everyday words. Keep sentences short. Use active phrases.
  4. Choose clear fonts in appropriate sizes. Avoid curlicue fonts and making people squint to read. As important, headlines and graphics shouldn’t be so large that they push your content far down the page.
  5. Keep it credible. Most of us don’t like a heavy-handed sales pitch. We prefer to make purchase decisions based on trustworthy information. Well-written digital content will lead people to your ‘buy now’ page without resorting to being overly promotional.

Good writing may seem simple but it is hard work. That’s probably why we’re busier than ever. Media Relations’ writers apply our stringent Media-grade Content processes to everything we write. No one else can say that.

Our writers are seasoned pros. Some of us came of age in the digital era, while others could probably still change a typewriter ribbon if they had to. Combined, we’ve written for more than 75 different industries. We’ve written for CEOs and entrepreneurs, Fortune 500 companies and local family-owned businesses. We’re well-versed in hundreds of subjects (and interesting conversationalists at dinner parties).

Our clients get the benefit of all this experience. You can too. Add us to your digital marketing team. Use this form to contact us or call 952-697-5269.

I’m fortunate to have a very diverse background, which gives me a good perspective whenever we bring on a new client.” An IABC- and Mercury-award winner, Robin says her practical experience in the health sciences has proven particularly beneficial as she interprets clients’ scientific information for mainstream media. “But it’s no longer sufficient to write well,” she cautions. “As marketers, we must now comply with the intricacies of digital marketing. That involves a whole set of rules, which are constantly evolving.”
