Why can’t I quickly get media coverage?

Media coverage with illustrated reporters at desk

One of the most common misconceptions about PR is that it should start happening quickly. The truth is that arranging media coverage takes time, tenacity and tons of experience. After arranging tens of thousands of media stories over the last 35+ years, Media Relations Agency can help you expedite the process.

What influences the media’s timelines?

Some of the factors that may influence how quickly you start getting PR include:

    • Lead times. This is the time between when a reporter starts working on a story and when it runs or airs. That can be a few hours or several months. Our publicists continually follow up with reporters to ensure our clients’ stories stay top of mind.
    • A similar story may have just run. If the media has just run a nice story that would have been a perfect fit for you, they may be reluctant to do another any time soon. By crafting alternative story angles, we give the media good reasons to move forward with your story.
    • Lack of familiarity with your company or product. Our PR team may need to start by educating the media about why their audiences need to know about you. We can also  advise you on strategies that will make you even more desirable to the media.
    • Your parameters may be too narrow. If you only want publicity in a few specific outlets and they aren’t interested, your campaign may be over before it begins. There are countless advantages to broadening your PR reach. By being open to a wide variety of media opportunities, some of our clients have gained distribution in new markets. Others have discovered surprisingly lucrative audiences they hadn’t previously considered targeting.

We can expedite the PR process

Many agencies today specialize in digital marketing. They may not even attempt to arrange a nice story for their clients in USA Today or on a morning TV show. The advantages to working with an experienced PR agency such as Media Relations Agency is that we know what we’re doing.

We make the media’s jobs easier by anticipating their needs and compiling everything they need to do a complete story. And if there’s a roadblock, chances are we already know a great detour. With decades of PR experience, we’ve seen just about everything.

We also think arranging PR is a lot of fun, and we try to make it fun for our clients. Use this form to let us know you’re ready to start talking with us about a PR campaign. We’d love to answer your questions. You can also call us at  952-697-5269.
